I write with reference to Wayne Oakes whom I have known both professionally and subsequently as a friend for a number of years. He is a sensitive and accomplished musician who has a natural feel for rhythm and musical style.
I have been a Musical Director for 20 years and Wayne is one of the most efficient accompanists I have ever worked with. His sight reading is excellent and he is very adaptable, having the ability to both lead and follow a soloist, thus giving support when needed, as a conductor I have felt the benefits of this.
More recently I have observed Wayne both in rehearsal and performing in his own right as a Musical Director, where he showed that he had excellent skills in training, direction and leadership.
Wayne is always prepared, punctual and reliable, I have no hesitation in recommending him for this position.

I am very pleased to provide a reference in support of Wayne Oakes.
I have known Wayne for 5 years having met through our mutual enjoyment and performance of Musical Theatre. In that time we have collaborated on a number of shows : "Hello Dolly", "Oliver", "Sweet Charity", "Half a Sixpence" and "Little Shop of Horrors", as well as a number of concert programmes and currently, a presentation of the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and later in the year a production of " Boogie Nights" and "Chess" in 2012.
He has worked as an accompanist and on occasions has deputised for me in my capacity of Musical Director and has had wide experience of performing in many different types of venue, for many contrasting occasions and displaying excellent knowledge of various genre and musical styles.
He is a very talented and able pianist and keyboard player with a very wide repertoire and knowledge of music in both performance and theory which he is currently passing on to pupils within his own developing music school.
He attends rehearsals punctually and is always thoroughly prepared. His sight reading skills are first class when required. He plays with the utmost accuracy taking note of the requirements of the music in terms of dynamics and phrasing providing sensitive accompaniment, as well as bearing in mind the requirements of the production team and the cast of both chorus and principals. He is highly adaptable to the needs of the production and he displays a high level of musicianship enhancing the performance. He displays a good ability in writing and arranging music.
In addition to his solo accompanying work as a rehearsal pianist, Wayne also plays for the duration of the production performance as an orchestral member for me. Here, his playing has enhanced the orchestral sound and has elicited very favourable comments from other orchestral personnel.
Wayne is a naturally outgoing person who has a wide circle of friends. He relates well with people and commands their respect and returns it. He is keen to progress in the world of music and I have no hesitation in recommending him without reservation for the post which he has applied.
